RIMOWA's Jewellery Case Is an Organiser, Not a Travel Safe

The case opens into two microfibre-lined compartments rather than one miniature suitcase cavity. Leather loops hold bracelets apart; a rounded ring element serves conventional bands; a separate leather loop accepts larger rings. A removable leather pouch isolates necklaces, earrings or small pieces that would otherwise migrate around a rigid interior.

That separation is the real product. Aluminium can resist knocks, but jewellery is often damaged by contact with other jewellery: chains knot, polished surfaces rub and stones strike metal. The fitted interior reduces that movement, provided the owner matches each piece to an appropriate fixture instead of overfilling the pouch.

RIMOWA forms the matte Silver shell with familiar grooves and finishes the two exterior locks in bright silver colour. The object is made and engineered in Germany, and the polished hardware deliberately recalls jewellery. Unlike a suitcase, it has no wheels, telescopic handle or flexible packing volume; it is a portable box designed to sit inside another bag.

The UK product page listed £1,360 when reviewed, positioning the case as a luxury object rather than the economical answer to travel organisation. Buyers are paying for Cologne-made aluminium construction and a tailored interior. A well-designed soft roll will be lighter and less conspicuous; the RIMOWA earns its premium through rigidity and display value.

Two locks stop the lid opening casually and make tampering less immediate. The launch materials do not state burglary, fire or waterproof ratings, and no lock makes valuables appropriate for unattended checked luggage. Airlines and insurers can impose their own requirements for jewellery, especially at high declared values.

Our verdict: this is an excellent organiser for an owner who appreciates the case as furniture at home and can keep it in hand while travelling. It is poor value for anyone seeking maximum capacity, low weight or certified security. The best feature is the interior choreography; the greatest risk is assuming the aluminium exterior promises more protection than RIMOWA actually claims.
