Sky Blue Gave the New RIMOWA Hybrid Trunk Plus Its First Seasonal Finish

The colour release mattered because it tested the tall Trunk Plus format, not because the Hybrid's polycarbonate-and-aluminium construction changed.

Quick answer

Sky Blue launched seasonally on Hybrid Cabin (€885), Check-In L (€1,100) and Trunk Plus (€1,430). The blue-grey polycarbonate shell, exposed aluminium frame and corners did not change Hybrid engineering; the news was Trunk Plus receiving its first seasonal colour soon after joining the range. Cabin is the rational purchase. Trunk Plus suits two-week packing and a tall footprint, but its capacity can reach an airline weight limit long before the case looks full.

Sky Blue covered Cabin, Check-In L and Trunk Plus from 28 August 2025.
The Trunk Plus was the first seasonal-colour release for that then-new Hybrid format.
Hybrid combines a polycarbonate shell with aluminium frame, corners and latch locks rather than a zip.
Two Flex Dividers organise both halves; high Trunk Plus volume requires deliberate weight control.
01Launch range

Three sizes, one genuinely notable addition

Cabin and Check-In L were familiar Hybrid forms. Trunk Plus was the meaningful part of the release: a tall, deep case recently added in permanent colours and now tested in its first seasonal finish. The vertical proportions create a smaller floor footprint than a wide conventional case while concentrating more capacity on one deep side.

Launch RRPs were €885 for Cabin, €1,100 for Check-In L and €1,430 for Trunk Plus. Those figures place Sky Blue exactly as a colour option within Hybrid, not as a premium collaboration. The shade was seasonal, so scarcity should not be mistaken for a technical upgrade.

  • Cabin €885; Check-In L €1,100
  • Trunk Plus €1,430 and first seasonal finish for the format
02Construction

A polycarbonate body with an aluminium perimeter

Hybrid sits between Essential and Original. The main shell is lighter, flexible polycarbonate, but an aluminium frame and corners create a rigid closing perimeter. TSA-approved latch locks replace the zip used on Essential. Two Flex Dividers compress both halves, and the Multiwheel and stage-free handle follow RIMOWA's familiar operating system.

Sky Blue emphasises that construction because the blue-grey body contrasts with exposed Silver metal. It does not make Hybrid as dent-prone as a full aluminium shell, nor as light and forgiving as a zipped polycarbonate case. Buyers are paying for a mixed-material middle position and the security of a framed closure.

  • Shell: polycarbonate; frame and corners: aluminium
  • Closure: TSA-approved latches with two internal Flex Dividers
03Format verdict

Trunk Plus rewards shape discipline, not maximum filling

RIMOWA positioned Trunk Plus for trips of two weeks or more. Its deep cavity handles bulky objects well and can stand within a compact patch of hotel floor. The danger is weight: a high-volume case can exceed common checked allowances before every corner is occupied, especially when filled with shoes, books or winter clothing.

Our verdict: Sky Blue is handsome, but Cabin is the sound all-round buy and Check-In L the safer checked recommendation. Choose Trunk Plus only if its deep packing style solves a real problem and you use a scale. The first seasonal colour made the new silhouette visible; it did not make overpacking less expensive.

  • Best all-rounder: Hybrid Cabin
  • Best high-capacity use: bulky but relatively light contents in Trunk Plus
