Registering a RIMOWA: What It Does—and What It Does Not

A precise registration workflow for serialized RIMOWA products, with the 2023 NFC route, pre-2014 limit and the distinction between registration and guarantee coverage.

Quick answer

Sign in to MY RIMOWA and use the 'Register your RIMOWA' section for a serialized product, or scan the NFC tag behind the telescopic handle on a suitcase purchased from 1 January 2023 onward. The NFC route opens the same registration process and can lead to a digital Ownership Certificate stored in a wallet. RIMOWA's ownership FAQ says products purchased before 2014 can no longer be registered. Registration organises product information, orders and service access; it does not itself prove that every physical component is authentic or guarantee that a future repair is covered. New suitcases purchased from 25 July 2022 receive RIMOWA's published lifetime functional guarantee by purchase eligibility, not because the owner completed registration.

All serialized products can generally be added through a MY RIMOWA account, but RIMOWA says pre-2014 products are no longer registerable.
Suitcases purchased from 1 January 2023 include an NFC tag behind the telescopic handle that opens registration.
Eligible post-25 July 2022 suitcases receive published lifetime functional coverage without registration activating it.
Registration is an ownership and service record, not a standalone physical-authentication verdict or automatic repair approval.
01Before signing in

Gather the product record once

Photograph the item, its serial number and the purchase receipt before beginning. RIMOWA says suitcase serials normally appear on the outside of the frame near the hinge, although its repair form notes that some models place them under the handle; a registered serial may also appear in the online account, and the invoice can carry it. Transcribe the number carefully rather than posting the photograph publicly.

Record whether the item was bought new, received as a gift or acquired pre-owned, along with the approximate purchase date and seller. Registration is possible for serialized products, but RIMOWA's ownership-certificate FAQ says products purchased before 2014 can no longer be registered. That cutoff is more useful than repeatedly submitting an older serial and assuming the item is counterfeit when the form rejects it.

  • Prepare: private serial photograph, exact transcription, receipt or gift evidence and purchase date.
  • Locate: outside frame near the hinge, under the handle on some models, invoice or existing online account.
  • Age limit: the current ownership FAQ says registration is no longer possible for products purchased before 2014.
02Method 1

Use MY RIMOWA for any eligible serialized product

Create or sign in to a MY RIMOWA account, open the registration section and enter the product information requested. Use an email address that the long-term owner controls; the account becomes the place to retrieve linked product information, manage eligible orders and returns, and begin later service conversations. Save the confirmation after the item appears in the account.

A failed entry should trigger a transcription check, not repeated guessing. Compare zeros and letters, inspect the serial in fresh light and use the invoice if available. If the item falls within the supported period and still cannot be added, contact Client Care with a private photograph of the number, proof of purchase and the seller details. Avoid sharing a full serial in a public forum where it can be copied.

  • Sign in, open 'Register your RIMOWA', enter the serialized product and retain the confirmation.
  • Use one durable owner-controlled email address so the product history remains accessible.
  • Escalate a valid modern serial with receipt and private photographs rather than testing altered numbers.
03Method 2

For 2023-onward suitcases, scan behind the handle

RIMOWA says suitcases purchased from 1 January 2023 have an NFC tag behind the telescopic handle at the base. Activate NFC reading on the phone, place the phone close to that area and tap the notification that appears. Reader position varies: on many newer phones the top edge works best, often at the same angle used for contactless payment.

The tag redirects the phone to RIMOWA's registration process; it is not a luggage tracker and cannot geolocate the suitcase. RIMOWA also says a person who scans the tag cannot see the owner's personal information without the account password. Confirm the browser is on a genuine rimowa.com address before entering credentials, especially when scanning a pre-owned case.

  • Enable NFC, bring the phone to the tag behind the telescopic handle and open the resulting notification.
  • Use the phone's contactless-payment edge or experiment slowly because reader position varies by model.
  • NFC starts registration; it does not transmit the case's live location or expose the account without login.
04What registration changes

An organised account is not a coverage decision

For new suitcases purchased from 25 July 2022, RIMOWA publishes lifetime guarantee coverage for functional aspects during the suitcase's lifespan, excluding cosmetic wear, misuse and abuse. The guarantee FAQ describes that eligibility by purchase date; registration makes the product easier to manage but is not presented as the act that switches coverage on. RIMOWA still assesses each defect.

For suitcases purchased before that date, the owner manual and regional terms describe different registration-dependent periods, commonly five years when registered and two years otherwise, with regional qualifications. Use the terms that governed the original purchase. Registration can also make an eligible 2023-onward Ownership Certificate available, but neither an account entry nor certificate proves that every physical component remained original after sale.

  • Post-25 July 2022 new suitcase: lifetime functional terms follow published purchase eligibility and exclusions.
  • Earlier suitcase: registration and regional terms can affect the manufacturer's guarantee period.
  • Every claim: RIMOWA assesses function, cause, proof and applicable terms; registration is not pre-approval.

Frequently asked questions

Do I have to register a new RIMOWA for the lifetime guarantee?
RIMOWA states that new suitcases purchased from 25 July 2022 receive lifetime coverage for functional aspects. Registration is useful for records but is not described as activation.
Can I register an old RIMOWA suitcase?
RIMOWA's current ownership FAQ says registration is no longer possible for products purchased before 2014. Later serialized products can generally use MY RIMOWA.
Does registering a RIMOWA prove it is authentic?
No. Registration links a serialised product record to an account; it does not prove that every physical component or the complete case is genuine and unchanged.
